The move reversed a two-year-old order by Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, who came under pressure for greater transparency after sharply increasing the use of drones for targeted attacks in military and counterterrorism operations.
The US military is the only force known to operate armed drones over Yemen, a country ravaged by war since 2014.
