Alan Bean, Moon-walking US astronaut turned painter, dies

Alan Bean was the fourth of 12 men ever to have walked on the Moon. Bean surprised NASA by quitting to become painter in 1981 and his moon paintings sold for tens of thousands of dollars.

US astronaut Gene Cernan was the last man to set foot on the moon, in December 1972. He was also the second person to walk in space.
