Only Sony Pictures' "Little Women," an adaptation of the classic Louisa May Alcott novel by an all-female production team, broke the mold with its best picture nod.
It was dark comic book tale "Joker" that topped the Oscar nominations, picking up 11 nods including best picture and best director, as women and ethnic minorities were largely shut out once again.
Netflix secured a whopping 17 film nominations, trouncing the competition from Hollywood studios among whom Sony finished second with just eight.
“The Irishman” and its lead actors and director are expected to be nominated for multiple Golden Globe awards when nominations are announced in Los Angeles on Monday. Oscar nominations will be announced on January 13.
