A US forensics team has returned to Palestinian authorities the bullet that killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, with results still to be determined.
A US forensic team has already arrived in Palestine to carry out the test, a senior Palestinian official says.
The Palestinian Authority says it has been assured that no modifications will be made to the bullet and that it will be returned as soon as the assessment was complete.
Sixteen-year-old Mohammad Hamad was shot and killed by Israeli forces near a road leading to the the Israeli settlement of Ofra near Ramallah.
On May 11, Shireen Abu Akleh, 51, was covering an Israeli military raid near the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank when she was shot dead.
US lawmakers in a letter to President Biden said a transparent investigation should be carried out under US auspices due to Israeli and Palestinians' distrust of each other's inquiries.
