El Salvador Supreme Electoral Court says that with nearly 80 percent of ballots counted, Nayib Bukele had 53 percent of the votes.
Salvadorans are not the first group effected by the determination. In November nearly 60,000 Haitians lost protections that were granted after a 2010 earthquake.
