Prosecutors demanded a sentence of more than 15 years after a New York jury had found former Halkbank executive Hakan Atilla guilty of helping Iran evade US sanctions, that followed a nearly four-week trial, in January this year.
US prosecutors called on a New York jury to find former Turkish banker Mehmet Hakan Atilla guilty of helping Iran to evade US sanctions. Atilla's attorneys urged the jury to carefully examine the evidence which would prove Atilla to be innocent.
