Amid a political crisis that has pitted Nikol Pashinyan against the army, the prime minister has announced a snap parliamentary election for June 20.
PM Nikol Pashinyan, who accuses the military of an attempted coup, has faced opposition calls to step down ever since he signed a November 10 peace deal that saw Azerbaijan reclaim control over large parts of Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas.
Nikol Pashinyan has previously faced protests and calls to quit over what his opponents say was his mishandling of a six-week conflict last year.
The exchange was facilitated by Russian peacekeepers who have been deployed to Nagorno-Karabakh for five years under the peace deal.
The Republican Party, that controlled the old parliament before election frontrunner Nikol Pashinyan led massive protests that forced the government to step down earlier this year, is struggling to overcome a 5-percent threshold.
