It was not immediately clear who was behind the overnight attack, and protesters said they did not know whether the masked gunmen were riot police, special forces or militias. Around 240 anti-government protester have been killed this month.
Renewed protests began on Thursday evening in a month of deadly unrest that has claimed more than 200 lives.
Protests broke out on Tuesday across several Iraqi governorates demanding an improvement in living conditions and an end to corruption.
