Officials reopen shoreline in Huntington Beach as water quality tests show no detectable levels of oil-associated toxins, nine days after an undersea pipeline leaked crude oil into the ocean.
Pipeline that leaked tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the water off southern California was split open and apparently dragged along the ocean floor, officials say.
Ship's anchor striking the pipeline is "one of the distinct possibilities" for the cause of a major leak of crude into waters off southern California, says Martyn Willsher, chief of Amplify Energy that operates the pipeline.
