The Security Council has released a statement condemning the executions of four activists — Myanmar's first in decades — and calling for the immediate release of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
They were held in the colonial-era Insein prison and their executions were the first in Myanmar since the late 1980s.
A newly released report showed that at least 333 people were executed in 2021, a 25-percent increase compared with 267 in 2020.
