A new trade plan will be unveiled within days, while US forces will transit the Taiwan Strait in the next few weeks, according to Kurt Campbell, White House coordinator for Asia-Pacific issues.
The measures, which come amid cratering ties between China and the US, are the latest in a promised series of steps intended to hit back at the US for allowing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
An in-person summit between the leaders has been planned, though no detail has been given on the timing or location.
China claims Taiwan as its own territory and opposes any international engagement with the island that suggest a separate status, such as WHO membership and meetings with foreign government officials.
