The so-called "blood moon," when it turns a deep red, was visible at different times in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America when the sun, Earth and moon lined up perfectly, casting Earth's shadow on the moon.
Much of the world will see a rare lunar phenomenon combining a blue moon, a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse which has not happened since 1982 and will not happen until 2037.
The cosmic event is causing a buzz as it combines three unusual lunar events - an extra big super moon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse.
