The announcement comes after the Biden administration approved the potential sale of air defence radars and aircrafts to Cairo for a combined value of more than $2.5 billion.
US President Joe Biden’s decision to green-light the Joint Direct Attack Munitions sale is stirring opposition among some of his fellow Democrats as the death toll in Gaza soars amid intensified Israeli attacks.
The State Department is proposing the sale of $2.2 billion in arms to Taiwan, including 108 Abrams tanks and 250 Stinger surface-to-air missiles. Beijing demanded immediate cancellation of the proposed sale.
The sale would send a wrong message to "Taiwan independence" forces, China's embassy in Washington said in a statement.
