At least 30 killed in Ituri area of Democratic Republic of Congo in weekend attack, sources say. Locals say the victims had mostly been attacked with machetes or shot.
Local chief says victims were discovered by Red Cross workers who went into nearby forest to look for those missing after the attack on Kasanzi village in the Beni territory of North Kivu.
A monitoring group says at least 28 people were killed in Boga and 22 in Tchabi, villages lying about 10 kilometres apart as local sources attributed the attacks to the Daesh-linked Allied Democratic Forces, ADF.
The massacres have become more frequent since the army launched an offensive in October 2019, forcing the ADF to break up into smaller, highly mobile units, say experts.
Witnesses and a conflict monitor confirm there are at least 12 dead in the attack, blaming it on the Allied Democratic Forces, which has the reputation of being the bloodiest of the 122 militias which plague the eastern DRC.

Officials say assailants of the armed group CODECO killed 22 civilians in the village of Koli and in the second attack, two soldiers, a civilian and five members of the ADF militia were killed in Beni.
