As maternal deaths decrease worldwide, the United States has experienced an increase by 26 percent in maternal mortality.

One of the leading causes of these deaths is preeclampsia - a pregnancy condition that is related to high blood pressure and liver damage. 

In the past two decades, preeclampsia in the US has increased by 25 percent, a study by The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists found.
